Wall Collapses At Ridgefield Parkway Food Lion

Henrico County emergency officials were called to the Food Lion store at the Gleneagles Shopping Center on Ridgefield Parkway around 2:30 Thursday afternoon, after an interior wall collapsed. Public Information Officer Chris Buehren said the store was occupied at the time, but there were no injuries.

The wall, being constructed as a part of a store remodeling, was non load-bearing. It ran the entire length of the rear of the store, over the deli meat cases. The wall took out some ceiling tiles and electrical wiring as it fell, but did not impact the structural integrity of the building.

Henrico Fire officials arrived on scene minutes after the collapse and evacuated the store quickly and without incident. The situation had been turned over to store management by early evening Thursday, and the store will remain closed until at least Friday morning.

The collapse comes just one day after an entire building under construction at Chester Village Green in Chesterfield County caved in, killing one worker.
