The Interstate 64/295 Project is entering into a new phase this fall, and new traffic patterns and detours are now in place for the Fall. The following is an official press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation. Officials remind you to slow down in the work zone (the speed limit has been lowered from 65 to 55 in the I-64/295 interchange area) and be alert for trucks entering and exiting the highway.
September 15, 2008 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
I-64 west at W. Broad St. interchange (Henrico) – I-64 west at W. Broad St. (Exit 178) has been reduced from three to two lanes in order to allow W. Broad St. motorists to merge onto I-64 west. This closure will continue through Dec. 2008 while I-64 west is widened between W. Broad St. and the I-295 interchange. Expect delays westbound between Gaskins Rd. (mile marker 180) and the I-295 interchange (mile marker 177), particularly during afternoon rush hour (4-6 p.m. weekdays). Through traffic is encouraged to use the left lane.
Ramp from W. Broad St. to I-64 west (Henrico) – Motorists are advised to use caution when merging onto I-64 west from W. Broad St. due to reduced merge space.
I-64 west at the I-295 south ramp (Henrico) – Expect a new traffic pattern.
