Long-time Henrico County Board of Supervisors member David Kaechele was re-elected for his second consecutive term as chairman. Kaechele serves as Three Chopt District Supervisor, which encompasses the Short Pump area among other areas in the county’s West End. Elected with a 4-0 vote (one abstention by Tuckahoe District Supervisor and Vice Chairman Patricia O’Bannon), this will be his eighth time serving in the position since 1979.
O’Bannon was thought to be the likely choice for the top position, as the Vice Chairman one year has traditionally taken the reigns the next for the yearlong term. She said she figured her position on two high profile issues over the past few years could have cost her the job. One of those incidents centered around the questioning of Henrico County’s high purchase price of land off of Kain Road in Short Pump for future public uses. O’Bannon was at odds with Kaechele as well as other board members Richard Glover and James Donati on several key issues such as this one.
