Many of Short Pump’s schools are among the best in Virginia, according to awards given out Thursday by Governor Tim Kaine. The Governor presented 9 Henrico County schools with awards for educational excellence, 8 of which are in the Short Pump area.

On the elementary school level, Gayton, Nuckols Farm, Shady Grove, Short Pump, Springfield Park, and Twin Hickory elementary schools were honored. Pocahontas and Short Pump middle schools also received awards.

To be eligible for the honor, the schools must meet all state and federal educational requirements for two consecutive years, as well as participate in a variety of other initiatives, including meeting the Governor’s goals for reading and issuing advanced diplomas.

Chesterfield led the Richmond area with 10 schools receiving awards. 162 were given out statewide, which is almost double the 89 given out last year.
