Occupants of 9 houses along Gibsons Landing Drive, off Ridgefield Parkway near the Gleneagles Shopping Center, were told not to drink their tap water on Saturday after reporting the smell of petroleum coming from it. No residents were reported to have been sickened by the water. Henrico County brought in bottled water to all affected houses, as well as flushed the neighborhood’s supply line and cleaned all faucets and toilet tanks in the homes.
Residents were encouraged to run the water all weekend to flush out the odor. Officials temporarily deactivated water meters at the houses so the residents would not be charged for the water usage. The source of the problem has not been determined, but the County guessed utility work or an improper irrigation connection to the line could be to blame. All water has now been deemed suitable for drinking.
