Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), a local organization dedicated to preventing the abuse and neglect of children in the Metro Richmond area, is holding a 5K run walk near the end of the month at Short Pump Town Center. More details are provided below from event coordinator Sarah Mersereau.

We are excited to announce that Greater Richmond SCAN has organized our first annual 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Kids Run. The race will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Short Pump Town Center. Entry fee is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the 1-Mile Kids Run.

All registration fees will help prevent and treat child abuse and neglect throughout the Richmond area. Packet pick up will be at the front of the mall near Crate & Barrel from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. race day. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9:00am, with the Kids Run starting at 8:30am. We are also limited to 1000 entries so please sign up early.

After the race there will be a Family Festival in the Food Court at 9:30am featuring facepainting, vendors and other activities for children to enjoy. Post race food will be provided by Chick Fil A. Please go to www.grscan.com to register.

This is a great run to help out a great cause and also get ready for the Monument 10K. Please consider walking/running during this event and also please forward this message to co-workers, friends or anyone who plans on doing the 10K.

If you have any questions please feel free to email smersereau@grscan.com or call the SCAN office at 257-7226.
