Henrico Fire officials are reporting that three teenagers are being charged in connection with a fire that at the historic Nuckols Farm off Gayton Road that we first reported on last night. While official charges are still pending, Henrico Fire personnel have concluded their investigation after interviewing numerous neighbors and witnesses. The blaze broke out in a barn on the property at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday night.

The group was reportedly playing with fire in or around the structure when their activities got out of hand. Because of their age, the juveniles’ names will likely not be released. All three were released to the custody of their parents.

The historic building, sandwiched between the Gayton Station and Graham Meadows subdivisions and constructed in the mid-1800s, burnt to the ground. The barn was adjacent to the circa-1750 Nuckols Farmhouse, believed to be the oldest remaining structure in Henrico County. The site was purchased by the County of Henrico in 2005 to save it from demolition and is planned for use as a passive community park. Neither the farmhouse nor neighboring homes were damaged in the blaze, and no injuries were reported.
