Short Pump-Based S&K Pays Off Debt, Will Keep Stores Open

Short Pump-based S&K Famous Brands, a leading nationwide menswear retailer who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on February 9, has finally paid off a $13 million line of credit given to them by the US bankruptcy court in downtown Richmond as part of their filing. Sources familiar with the company say S&K only used around $7 million of the credit line to reorganize its operations. Deep Run Marathon Dance Raises $133,000 For Local Charities

Deep Run High School held its third annual 27 hour Marathon Dance this past Friday and Saturday, raising a total of $133,887.63 for 13 Richmond area charities. The dance was a joint effort of students, parents, faculty, local businesses, and the community. Events at the dance included contests where students were encouraged to dress up as their favorite fictional character and themed parties such as a toga rave, complete with hundreds of glow sticks, strobe lights, and techno music. Judge Rules Intoxicated Father Did Not Endanger Child

A Henrico Circuit Court judge ruled on Tuesday that driving with a child in a vehicle while intoxicated does not constitute child endangerment. 39-year-old Raleigh Thomas Campbell was arrested last December at gunpoint in front of the Short Pump Regal Cinemas, after getting in a dispute with a woman at the Beach House Bar & Grill at the Shoppes At Innsbrook. Henrico Names New Economic Development Head

Henrico County has announced a new director of economic development. Gary R. McLaren has been named executive director of the Henrico Economic Development Authority, replacing Fred Agostino, who retired in December. McLaren, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, has been the deputy director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (second in command) since 2003. He served in various economic development jobs before that. He starts April 20. Read more


Destroyed Innsbrook Office Building Being Rebuilt

An office building in the Innsbrook Corporate Center on the corner of Cox Road and Sadler Place is finally being rebuilt. A two alarm blaze destroyed the structure last July, which housed Allstate Insurance, a non-profit group called Richmond Hope Therapy, and several other small offices. The building suffered severe structural damage and had to be demolished in October. Read more

In these hard economic times, people have many needs. One local church, Richmond Community Church on Nuckols Road, is organizing a “Free Sale” to help the public. All items donated will be given to anyone for free. No money or donation is necessary. Dave & Buster’s Bringing 175 Jobs To Short Pump

Dining and entertainment chain Dave & Buster’s will open the company’s first location in Central Virginia this coming April at West Broad Village. The 16,000 square-foot location will bring more than 175 new jobs to the Short Pump area. Positions as greeters, bartenders, and servers, among other jobs, are all open. Read more

Boychik’s really has a great breakfast menu and given my inability to find a diner style breakfast joint directly in Short Pump thus far, I had to give this place a thumbs up.
