Opening Day For Dave & Buster’s Short Pump Location

April 19, 2009 - 5:52 pm · By Trevor Dickerson

After much anticipation all over the Richmond area, Dave & Buster’s is finally opening on Monday. The national entertainment and dining establishment, described as “Chuck-E-Cheese for adults” by many, is located just behind Mimi’s Cafe at West Broad Village.

The establishment held a benefit for the Richmond SPCA on Saturday night which doubled as a preview night. This is the first Dave & Buster’s in Virginia.

General Manager James Lavvorn thinks Dave & Buster’s will be a unique addition to the Short Pump scene. “There are plenty of dining options in Short Pump, but none of them are accompanied by The Giant – a giant crane that grabs giant prizes,” Lavvorn said in a recent interview with Downtown Short Pump. “One of Dave & Buster’s most popular attractions is the Derby Owner’s Club. This role playing game places four players in the shoes of thoroughbred racehorse breeders, jockeys, owners and trainers. Other games [will] include classics like skeeball and a NASCAR racing simulator.”

Dave & Buster’s brought approximately 150 new jobs to Short Pump with its arrival, including greeters, bartenders and servers. The 16,000 square foot location is about half the size of the Dallas-based company’s typical facilities, but still features about 70 midway games and can pack in up to 750 people. There’s also a large bar that accomodates just under 50 people and private event space that will hold up to 75.

Dave & Buster’s opens Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. for the lunch rush. Customers can sign up for a free D&B Rewards card online for $10 in free game play at the Short Pump location.
