A female driver was killed Saturday night when her car veered off of Springfield Road near Echo Lake Park and struck a tree. Henrico Police attempted to pull the driver of the vehicle over around 11:30 p.m. for speeding on West Broad Street. The driver allegedly picked up speed and refused to pull over.

The woman’s car went into the woods and struck a tree. The accident occurred on a particularly windy portion of the two lane road near its intersection with Jones Road, and is still under investigation by Henrico Crash Teams. Henrico Fire crews and EMTs arrived on scene just minutes after the crash and transported the driver to VCU Medical Center where she later died after undergoing surgery.

The driver’s identity has not yet been released pending the notification of next of kin.
