On one of the coldest weekends of the year and in the biggest snowstorm Richmond has seen in quite some time, the Salvation Army’s distribution center at Chesterfield Towne Center put out an alarming report. At the time, they thought more than 300 coats meant for needy individuals in the Richmond area had been stolen. Fortunately, a new report out Tuesday said they were actually only misplaced. A weekend snowstorm that streamed across the East Coast dumped more than a foot of snow on the Short Pump area this past weekend, wreaking havoc on the roadways and causing a number of power outages. End Of An Era: Ukrop’s Sold, Will Be Open Sundays And Sell Alcohol

Ukrop’s Super Markets announced today that they have been acquired by Giant-Carlisle, a Division of Ahold USA for approximately $140 million. 25 stores will be sold as part of the deal, which includes all Richmond-area stores and the Williamsburg location. The Fredericksburg store is not part of the transaction. And while many things will change, the new owners say many things will remain the same. Read more


Local Outreach Group Starts Flash Mob In Short Pump Town Center Courtyard

Richmond Outreach Center, a large church and outreach ministry in the city’s south side better known as The ROC, brought a little holiday cheer to Short Pump Town Center shoppers earlier this month when they descended on the courtyard and started a flash mob, singing and dancing to popular Christmas songs. Home Furnishings Store Closing Short Pump Town Center Location Next Month

The West Elm furniture store at Short Pump Town Center will close January 18, 2010. The closure was confirmed by a spokesperson for Williams-Sonoma, the publicly-traded retailer that owns West Elm. No specific reason was given for closing the store. Mall management also offered no explanation as to why the store was closing. Read more
