New Mattress Store Opens As Another Closes & New Frozen Yogurt Bar Coming


Mattress King will become the fourth major Henrico-based retailer to cease operations, following Circuit City, LandAmerica and S&K Menswear. The company began liquidating stores a little more than a week ago. Just a block from the Short Pump location, however, a new mattress retailer has moved into the Promenade Shoppes.

Henrico Board Votes To Condemn Properties In North Gayton Road Right-Of-Way


The Henrico County Board of Supervisors voted in favor Tuesday night of beginning the condemnation process for five parcels of land that lie within the right-of-way for the North Gayton Road construction project. The $48 million road project was approved in July of 2009.

Weekend Garage Fire Heavily Damages Home In Wellesley Subdivision


A house in the 2800 block of Woodmark Court in the Woodmark subdivision in Wellesley suffered extensive damage after a fire that broke out mid-day on Saturday. Just one of the six residents who occupy the two-story home was inside at the time.

Starting with dinner and rounding out several lunch visits, I have yet to have a bad meal at Anokha. Settled into the Shoppes at Westgate, the joint’s exterior is less than welcoming. Its entrance reminds me a bit of a CVS Pharmacy.

Short Pump Shorts: ABC Store Closure & Pouncey Tract Road Improvement Meeting


The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has closed the Short Pump Crossing ABC Store located at 3406 Pump Road for remodeling as of Saturday, February 13. The store will reopen on Monday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. according to the Department website.

Two More Locally-Owned Short Pump Eateries Close Doors


Two local establishments, one a restaurant and the other a pastry shop and cafe, have closed their doors. A Slice of Grapevine near Regal Cinemas and Daffodil Desserts & More near the new Hilton Hotel & Spa have both ceased operations.

Short Pump Featured In Upcoming HGTV “House Hunters” Episode


A Richmond couple from The Fan, Marc & Elizabeth Cram, will be featured on an upcoming episode of HGTV’s House Hunters. The episode, entitled “Pool Pros and Cons in Richmond,” will also reportedly feature a Short Pump real estate agent and neighborhood when it’s scheduled to air on Sunday, February 14, 2010.
