An unidentified resident of a home in the 11000 block of Thorncroft Drive died early Sunday morning when a fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. in a one story brick rancher off Sadler Road near Innsbrook.

Henrico Fire officials arrived on scene to find the home engulfed in flames and consuming the structure. The entire roof was destroyed, leaving only an exterior shell. One resident lost their life in the fire. The victim’s name is being withheld until an autopsy can be completed by a medical examiner.

Authorities say the blaze stated in the kitchen and quickly spread, although the cause has not yet been determined.

What a horrible tragedy! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Everyone and ever business should have a working fire alarm/security system for the protection of life safety. Things like this make me sad. If a smoke detector had gone of at the first sign of smoke it may have made a big difference.

Again a working fire/security system means cheaper insurance and like a house sitter when your home or not home to call for help. Don't fall for the big companies that tell you they will put a free system in your home. They do nothing more then put just enough equipment in your home to charge you a outrages monthly monitoring fee. Then you never see them again unless you pay a outrages service fee. Find a real company that honestly wants to protect you, your family and your home.
