West Broad Village came to life Friday night with what the planned community hopes becomes a holiday tradition. Several hundred people, plus Legendary Santa and the Snow Queen, were on hand to light the village’s Christmas tree and unveil seven animated window displays reminiscent of bygone holidays at Thalhimer’s and Miller & Rhoads in downtown Richmond.
The annual event has been dubbed Reflections of the Past.
The window displays were bought by management through a wholesaler and originally sat in windows at Lord & Taylor in New York City in Christmas 2009.
The displays are meant to both provide holiday cheer and serve as a creative way to spruce up empty storefronts in the largely unrented retail space.
Several retailers have recently opened at West Broad Village and have been slowing filling Old Brick Road, the village’s main corridor, including eclectic gift and home accent shop The French Boutique and candy boutique Sweet Spot. Keegan’s Irish Pub is also expected to open in the spring.
