BizSense reported June 1 that Innsbrook-based Snagajob, one of the fastest growing companies in Richmond, had laid off 6 employees because of new technology that made their jobs obsolete. At the time, we did not make it clear that the peak headcount in December had been 140.

South University, a private institution with six campuses across the southeast United States, is opening a Short Pump location. The university will invest $12 million and focus on health occupations, business management and psychology. Many of the university’s students are seeking a career change or an advanced degree.

One of Richmond’s fastest growing firms is taking a small step back, laying off employees on account of the recession. In April, Innsbrook-based SnagAJob.com, which runs a job board that matches hourly workers with jobs (7-Eleven is a customer), let go six employees from the client services department.

And now come the bargain hunters. At 1:30 Thursday, around 15 to 20 shoppers cruised through S&K Menswear in Short Pump looking for bargains. Most left the store with several items on first day of the chain’s going out of business sale.
