New Traffic Patterns In Flyover Project Area

The Interstate 64/295 Project is entering into a new phase this fall, and new traffic patterns and detours are now in place for the Fall. The following is an official press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation. Officials remind you to slow down in the work zone (the speed limit has been lowered from 65 to 55 in the I-64/295 interchange area) and be alert for trucks entering and exiting the highway. $24.4 Million Land Purchase Gets Green Light

The Henrico Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Monday night in favor of purchasing 205 acres off of Kain Road. As we reported earlier, the land is slated for future use as the site of a high school, park, fire station, and county fueling station. The land will be purchased from land owner Robert Atack for $24.4 million, around double what the developer paid for it less than two years ago, sparking a tense debate between Tuckahoe District Supervisor Pat O’Bannon and County Manager Virgil Hazelett. Debate Over County Land Purchase Continues

A months old controversy about how much the County of Henrico should pay for 205 acres of land off Kain Road is being resurrected this Tuesday at a hearing before the Board of Supervisors. The board will consider purchasing the land for $24.4 million dollars. The site will be used for a future park, school, fire station, and county fueling facility. Read more


New Office Complex Slated For Twin Hickory’s Back Entrance

Yet another new office condominium development is planned for the Twin Hickory development, this time at the back entrance of Twin Hickory, at the intersection of Twin Hickory Lake Drive and Pouncey Tract Road. The plan calls for multiple office condo units, as well as a free-standing branch bank location at the front of the property.

The plan is pending a rezoning application by the Henrico County Board of Supervisors. They’ll hear the developer’s request at their monthly public hearing on September 11, 2008 at the Western Government Center on Parham Road.

The Corner At Short Pump To Feature 86,000 Square Foot Kroger Store

Another upscale shopping center is planned for the area. The Corner at Short Pump, to be built at the corner of West Broad Street and Lauderdale Drive, across from Short Pump Town Center, will feature an 86,000 square foot gourmet Kroger grocery store, among other things, with 225,000 square feet of mixed use space total in the center. New Dining Options Coming To Innsbrook

Some exciting new dining establishments are coming to the Innsbrook area. Under construction at Cox Road and West Broad Street is the Silver Diner (pictured). This authentic, retro 1950s-style diner will be the newest addition to the company’s small chain, with the majority of locations in Northern Virginia and Maryland. The restaurant serves up generous portions of comfort food and family favorites and is set to open this Fall. Read more


Espresso On The Go

Short Pump residents will soon be able to get their daily Starbucks fix in a convenient drive-through. Similar to the location that recently opened on Gaskins Road at Mayland Drive, the Short Pump location will offer both inside seating and a drive-through window. Read more


American Family Gets Pumped Up

A popular Short Pump gym is about to get a whole lot bigger. You might even say it’s on steroids. Richmond Fitness, Incorporated., parent company of American Family Fitness, is nearing completion on a 90,000 square foot facility on the back side of Short Pump Town Center, across from Macy’s. The massive building replaces their current location in the neighboring Downtown Short Pump complex. The old facility is bursting at the seams both inside and out. The gym is overcrowded, and parking is scarce despite a recent lot expansion. Read more


Shop ‘Till You Drop, Then Get A Room

Luxury accommodations are coming soon to Short Pump Town Center. Along the back side of the mall, next to Dick’s Sporting Goods, is a new Hotel Sierra under construction. When complete, the six story suite hotel will include 134 rooms, as well as 10,500 square feet on the ground level for a possible future restaurant or retail use. The facility will also boast an outdoor pool and hearth-style fire pit for guests’ enjoyment. The hotel is expected to open in Spring 2009. Read more


West Broad Village Takes Shape

Construction of Short Pump’s premiere mixed-use development, Short Pump Village, is underway at a rapid pace. The apartments-over-retail section of the development, facing West Broad Street, is pictured to the left. Upscale grocer Whole Foods Market and Wachovia Bank will be the first establishments to open. They both have a common target opening date of July 25, 2008. Read more
