The Local Vs. Corporate Dilemma In Short Pump
November 11, 2009 by Short Pump Mom · 4 Comments
The state of the economy has hit Richmond in several ways. Not only have many lost their jobs but so many small businesses have gone out of business. I have personally been on a mission to try to give my business to small businesses verses corporate ones in Short Pump. Read more
Daily Grind: Where Everybody Knows Your Name
September 29, 2009 by Lewis Stone · 4 Comments
In the eighties, there was a TV show about a fictional bar, Cheers, where everybody knows your name. It was the welcoming watering hole, a place of friendship and laughter. It had one major drawback, in my opinion, and that was that as a bar, there were limitations as to who could go there. In Short Pump, I have discovered a family friendly version of the popular tavern. In the modern, real-life version, coffee is the beverage of choice. Read more
Short Pump: Keeping It Local
July 23, 2009 by Short Pump Mom · 2 Comments
Kari Peiffer wrote this really interesting article that starts off with “I have a confession to make. I hate Short Pump.” Being a Short Pump resident and a person who really enjoys the area, when I first started reading her article, I was a little offended and thought that her commentary went a little too far. Henrico Redistricting: Wyndham Forest Supports Pairing #3
May 6, 2009 by Ron DiFrango · Leave a Comment
Editor’s Note: The Henrico redistricting process has been a long and bitter battle between neighborhoods in the Far West End. The opinions below are of a Wyndham Forest parent who supports the third redistricting option we reported on last week. We welcome all viewpoints on the redistricting matter. Write an article with your opinions and email it to us, and we’ll post it on the Op/Ed section of the site for the community to read. Read more
Henrico Redistricting: A Wyndham Forest Parent’s Perspective

As many know, the county in which I live in is going through school re-districting. The initial phase of the project required countless un-paid hours for community volunteers who poured over the data presented and created 2 pairings. The process is documented here. The community I live in [Wyndham Forest] is affected by the outcome of these meetings and the resulting recommendation of Pairing 2. I believe that in addition to our communities concerns with Pairing 2, that Pairing 1 is better for Henrico County as a whole. Here are the points that I believe support this claim: Read more
How Much Open Space Will West Broad Village Really Have?
March 16, 2009 by Short Pump Mom · 1 Comment
I recently read an article about West Broad Village which states that it will have “wetlands, forested areas and numerous parks.” Notice these words are plural. I know that the development, relatively speaking, is on a large tract of land, but I am having trouble envisioning enough space for wetlands, forests and parks, at least for those areas to really mean anything. Inside Circuit City’s Implosion
February 8, 2009 by Aaron Kremer · Leave a Comment
Not all of us come with a built-in Intel processor, but the current economy has forced me to step up my cognition. On Friday, Jan. 16, I waited anxiously with my Circuit City colleagues for news about the company’s future. We paced back and forth. We chewed on leftover holiday candy. We asked, “What do you think will happen?” over and over. Read more

I have always thought that the Short Pump Community was an interesting combination of small town life with bigger community aspects. Not too long ago, Short Pump was nothing more than a single road with a few small gas stations and houses. Read more
Will Residents Want To Live At West Broad Village?
January 14, 2009 by Short Pump Mom · 6 Comments
I am sure everyone has been affected by the sheer size of the West Broad Village’s construction activities here in Short Pump. The project is 526,000 square feet, which is amazing, but is it really big enough to create the “urban village” setting that they hope for? Will it attract residents who will want to live in a Main Street setting with a more city-like atmosphere? Read more
