Anokha: A Little Indian Genius In Short Pump
February 21, 2010 by Whine Me Dine Me · 3 Comments
Starting with dinner and rounding out several lunch visits, I have yet to have a bad meal at Anokha. Settled into the Shoppes at Westgate, the joint’s exterior is less than welcoming. Its entrance reminds me a bit of a CVS Pharmacy. Read more

Rainbow Buffet opened its doors towards the end of September in the Short Pump Village shopping center, a few doors down from Walmart. The latest in a myriad of new Chinese and Japanese restaurants to open in Short Pump, Rainbow Buffet offers good, affordable Asian cuisine in a nice atmosphere. Read more
Cafe Caturra: Coffee By Day, Wine By Night
October 11, 2009 by Mary Helen Sheriff · 1 Comment
Okay, I’m a sucker for a wood-burning fire, so it is no surprise that when I stepped into Café Caturra with its not one, but two wood-burning fireplaces (one inside and one gracing the outdoor seating area) I was hooked. Read more
Kanpai Kicks It Up A Notch In Service, Food & Atmosphere
July 6, 2009 by Trevor Dickerson · 4 Comments
Kanpai is the latest Japanese steakhouse to open its doors in Short Pump. Located in the Towne Center West shopping center, its traditional pagoda-style roof welcomes passersby on West Broad Street. Once inside, though, you’ll notice that the interior is anything but traditional. Read more
Sweet Frog: A Sweet & Unique Addition To Short Pump
June 25, 2009 by Trevor Dickerson · 9 Comments
Sweet Frog recently opened its doors in the Downtown Short Pump shopping center at the corner of Broad & Pouncey Tract. Situated next to Regal Cinemas, Sweet Frog took the place of the former Silver Time Jewelry location. It’s hard to miss with the huge inflatable rainbow and pop music coming from the speakers outside to announce the grand opening. Read more
Kenji: A Modern Hibachi Grill With Affordable Sushi
May 28, 2009 by Trevor Dickerson · 4 Comments
My first impression upon entering the doors of Kenji Hibachi & Sushi Bar at the Parc Place Shops of Short Pump Town Center was how modern it was. The decor was upscale and contemporary, and trendy dance music played throughout the establishment. Unlike many hibachi grills that have seperate rooms for each grill, Kenji is spacious and open, with separate areas for sushi bar seating and hibachi dinners. Read more
Verde: Fresh Food To Go
April 30, 2009 by Kamen Gordon · 8 Comments
Verde opened their doors for business in the Summit of West Broad shopping center about a month ago. They are tucked around the side of the building, opposite Panera and just across the entrance road from Chipotle. Looking for something a little different, we gave the promise of fresh food a chance. Verde feels a little bit like a city deli (in a good way), with it’s glass food cases and drink cases, but it also has a touch of lounge thrown in. They have a swanky lounge area and some additional seating, so even though their tag line is ” Fresh Food To Go,” you don’t have to eat in the car if you have no where “to go”. Read more
Mimi’s Cafe: Affordable, Eclectic Food In A Unique & Inviting Atmosphere
April 27, 2009 by Trevor Dickerson · 5 Comments
With all the hype surrounding the addition of Mimi’s Cafe to West Broad Village, I decided to check the place out for myself with my family. The first thing you’ll notice about Mimi’s is the almost out-of-place bungalow-style building with a muted, rustic look, with the exception of the bold neon purple awnings over the windows. The Flats at West Broad Village apartments-over-retail buildings tower over Mimi’s and make it seem quite small, but only from the outside. Read more
Ledo’s Pizza: Whoa, That Was Good!
April 16, 2009 by Kamen Gordon · 9 Comments
Ledo’s Pizza opened very recently in the still under construction West Broad Village, just behind Kona Grill. I recall checking out their website when I first heard that they were open and promptly forwarded it to my wife with overwhelming excitement about the prospect of square pizza! The shape had me, but the taste is the only thing that can keep me. Read more
Pizza Fusion: Eco-Friendly, All-Natural & Organic
April 9, 2009 by Kamen Gordon · 6 Comments
I visited Pizza Fusion shortly after opening it’s doors down the strip from Trader Joe’s in the Short Pump Station shopping center. It was a pretty busy night and though the seating was sparse, we found a couple of spots at the bar to eat. Generally “eating at the bar” is an unsavory, smoke riddled, draft beer and fried food kind of experience, but Pizza Fusion is perfectly smoke free and the bar is little more than another place to sit. If busier, seating would have been a problem and it didn’t appear that they were ready for the kind of hungry crowds Short Pump delivers on typical “eat out” nights. Read more
