Make a more memorable Valentines day! It’s so easy for you and your kids to create your own valentines instead of buying store bought ones. Kids will love making them, and their classmates, friends, and relatives will LOVE receiving them!

For each valentine you want to make, cut a piece of white cardstock in half. Then, take one of the halves and fold it down the middle to make the card. From a scrap piece of cardstock, cut a heart shape and tape it lightly to the front of the card. (Tip: There’s no need to make just one card at a time – use this opportunity to cut and prepare as many valentines and heart cut-outs as you want to make.) Then, put on your smocks, put down some newspaper and prepare to get a little messy!

Mix a small amount of water with your red acrylic paint on a paper plate to thin the paint slightly. Swish your toothbrush bristles around in the red paint and then rub your thumb across the bristles to splatter red paint down onto your card. Remove the paper heart taped to the front to reveal the white heart underneath. Once dry, use your pink or red paint marker (available at craft and office supply stores) to write “love” in cursive across the heart silhouette for the finishing touch!
