The Official Guide To Richmond's Far West End
After almost a year, the bankruptcy of the Dominion Club is finally coming to end. The Far West End golf and country club’s bankruptcy reorganization plan was approved Wednesday by a federal judge, clearing the way once and for all for members to get at least some of what they are owed and for the club to get back to business as usual.
The building at 9498 West Broad Street, near West Broad Street and Springfield Road, has seen its fair share of occupants over the past decade. First a Black Olive restaurant, then a Hop’s, the building was then a sports bar called That’s BS: Burgers & Sports, before becoming vacant several years ago.
Maybe the view from the top floor was too good to pass up. After initially leasing four of five floors, locally based travel insurance company Mondial Assistance decided to lease all five floors of the Deep Run I office building in Western Henrico.
A locally-owned custom framing and art store has moved. West End Gallery, which called the Gayton Crossing shopping center home for the past decade, opened in the Shoppes at Westgate, near other well-known local shops Tweed and By Invitation Only, about a week and a half ago. The 2,000 square foot space faces Lauderdale Drive across from Short Pump Town Center.
A Western Henrico office building that was once home to Circuit City is now in the hands of local owners.
Diversified Realty Ventures and Markel/Eagle joined forces to purchase Deep Run III for $12.4 million. The 382,570-square-foot building at 9954 Mayland Drive is vacant and will be renovated.
Henrico Police are getting some new digs in the Far West End. The county has signed two leases for field offices in the West End. One of them is in the West Broad Village development. The burden on taxpayers? A mere dollar per year, according to officials.
All this week, tenants of West Broad Village are hosting a “FUNdraising For The Cure” cancer awareness event. Proceeds from certain items at West Broad Village restaurants and shops will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. After a year-long delay, ACAC’s plans to bring a fitness center to West Broad Village are now back on track. As James Barrett of the Residents of West Broad Village site reports, the company will soon break ground on the facility at the corner of Old Brick Road and Gathering Place, across from the Children’s Museum of Richmond.
A local real estate firm based in Short Pump is taking a new approach to getting property information out to prospective tenants. Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer has adopted the use of Quick Response (QR) Codes as part of the marketing of available space at retail centers.
Despite rumors this summer to the contrary, a local medical lab company is keeping its headquarters in Richmond. Bostwick Laboratories, which runs medical labs across the country, signed an 18-month renewal on the lease for its 65,000-square-foot Innsbrook headquarters.
