The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting tomorrow to gather the community’s input regarding a two mile stretch of Springfield Road that’s seen its share of serious, and sometimes fatal, accidents over the years.
The North Gayton Road Extension Project, Henrico County’s $48 million plan to alleviate congestion throughout Short Pump, is making progress. Crews have placed steel across Interstate 64 for a new bridge, much of the roadway has been paved and a new intersection has been constructed where the new road meets Bacova Drive. Work on the North Gayton Road Extension Project, which has had Kain Road closed to traffic for the past ten days, will bring more detours to motorists beginning next week as steel beams are installed for an overpass above Interstate 64 westbound.
A rural Short Pump road will be closed beginning next week for construction. The Henrico County Department of Public Works has announced that Kain Road will close beginning Monday, August 15 for drainage improvements related to the North Gayton Road Extension Project.
Interstate 295 is open again today after a deadly motorcycle accident overnight. Steven Howell, age 39 of Mechanicsville, died at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle and being thrown off, before being struck by a Chrysler 300 driven by a 22-year-old male from Henrico, according to State Police.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board issued its Six Year Improvement Program draft last week, highlighting more than 900 projects that the agency recommends for funding by Governor Bob McDonnell’s transportation legislation throughout fiscal years 2012-2017. Several of the projects directly affect the Short Pump area.
Construction of a new Far West End Road extension will cause lane closures next week as crews place steel beams across Interstate 64 for a new bridge as part of the North Gayton Road extension project.
