Construction of a new Far West End Road extension will cause lane closures next week as crews place steel beams across Interstate 64 for a new bridge as part of the North Gayton Road extension project. The Henrico County Department of Public Works has released a schedule of the closures that will affect motorists.

A tractor trailer spun out of control and caught fire Wednesday afternoon just after 1:20 p.m. on Interstate 64 westbound beneath the Pouncey Tract Road overpass. Fire and rescue crews from Henrico Goochland and Louisa Counties were all on scene at the blaze, which could be seen for several miles around Short Pump.

A new section of John Rolfe Parkway has been completed and is now open to traffic. Motorists can now travel the new connector at the intersection of Church and Pump Roads, providing a new four lane junction that Henrico officials hope will ease traffic congestion in the area.

The 140,000 daily drivers traveling along the I-64 corridor west of Richmond are enjoying a less bumpy ride thanks to the completion of the I-64 resurfacing project. Contractor Branscome Inc. of Williamsburg wrapped up the $35 million repair and repaving project between the I-95/I-195 Bryan Park interchange and Parham Road last week.

A portion of Three Chopt Road, between the Barrington and Church Run subdivisions, was closed for the majority of the morning Friday due to a series of substantial potholes that created a large sinkhole in the roadway due to the recent heavy rainfall.
